La Ronge Native Women’s Council Scholarships
Piwapan Women’s Centre is a Non-profit organization, governed by the La Ronge Native Women’s Council Inc. A volunteer board of directors providing services and support to the whole family dynamic.
The La Ronge Native Women’s Council is proud to present Three (3) Annual Scholarships and they are as follows:
Mary Heimbecker Annual Scholarship
The Mary Heimbecker Scholarship will be awarded to a student entering their first year of post-secondary studies.
Scholarship amount: $1000.00
Deadline: September 1st
Margaret Beament Annual Scholarship
The Margaret Beament Scholarship will be awarded to a student in their final year of post-secondary studies.
Scholarship amount: $1000.00

About Margaret Beament & Mary Heimbecker
Margaret Beament and Mary Heimbecker are recognized in their foundational work and contributions to the La Ronge Native Women’s Council.
Their hard work and dedication gave a voice to those in need. Their vision for change was ground-breaking as they pursued funding for many organizations that still stand in the community. Their commitment to the community and the North continues through the work of the La Ronge Native Women’s Council Inc. Their leadership is admirable. Through this scholarship we honour Mary and Margaret, and it is our hopes that we can help pave the way for future leaders who are as committed as Mary Heimbecker and Margaret Beament.
Valerie Barnes-Connell Annual Scholarship
The Valerie Barnes-Connell Scholarship will be awarded to a student completing a 2-year diploma or certificate program in a helping field.
Scholarship amount: $1000.00

About Valerie Barnes-Connell
In 2026, The La Ronge Native Women’s Council Inc – Board of Directors are proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity in honour of Valerie Barnes-Connell.
We honour Val’s contributions to our community, to honour the respect and love she had for the North. We Thank you Val for your friendship, your wisdom during your time on the board, and for always supporting us in all of our endeavors. You are missed, but will not be forgotten. At Piwapan, we want to share her memory with the future leaders of our communities through this scholarship.
Eligibility / Criteria
Our scholarships are open to individuals who meet ALL of the following criteria
- Must be enrolled full time in a recognized post-secondary in studies leading to a to profession or career within the human services field
- Must reside in or originate from a northern community serviced by the La Ronge Native Women’s Council
- Must express a commitment to providing service in northern Saskatchewan.
- Must be of Indigenous Ancestry
